Post Op Dental Cleanings & Exams

Dental Cleanings & Exams Post-Op Instructions
Thank you for visiting us for your dental cleaning and exam. To ensure optimal oral health and comfort after your appointment, please follow these guidelines:

After a Dental Cleaning:

  1. Sensitivity: You may experience slight tooth sensitivity, especially to hot, cold or sweet foods, for a day or two after your cleaning. This is normal and should subside. Consider using toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth if needed.
  2. Gums: Your gums may feel tender or appear slightly red following your cleaning. Rinsing with warm salt water (1 teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of water) can help soothe any discomfort.
  3. Diet: Avoid consuming acidic or staining foods and beverages, such as coffee, tea or red wine, for 24 hours if fluoride treatment was applied.
  4. Oral Hygiene: Resume regular brushing and flossing immediately unless otherwise instructed. Keeping up with your oral care routine will help maintain the benefits of your cleaning.
  5. Bleeding: Minor bleeding during flossing or brushing is common if your gums are inflamed. This should improve as your gums heal and your hygiene habits remain consistent.

After a Dental Exam:

  1. X-Rays: If dental X-rays were taken, there are no post-operative care instructions specific to this procedure.
  2. Follow-Up Appointments: If any issues were identified during your exam, schedule the recommended follow-up treatments promptly to address concerns early.
  3. Pain or Concerns: Contact our office if you experience any unusual pain, swelling or prolonged sensitivity after your cleaning or exam.

Maintaining routine dental visits and following your at-home care regimen will help keep your smile healthy and vibrant. If you have any questions or concerns, please call our office. We are here to help!
