Dental Sealants Post-Op Instructions
Thank you for trusting us with your dental care. Dental sealants are a simple, preventive treatment designed to protect your teeth from decay. Here are some post-operative guidelines to ensure the best results:
1. Avoid chewing hard or sticky foods for the next 24 hours.
To give the sealants time to fully set and bond, avoid chewing gum, hard candies or ice. Sticky foods like caramel or taffy may dislodge the sealant prematurely.
2. Resume normal oral hygiene habits.
You can brush and floss your teeth as usual. Sealants protect the chewing surfaces of your teeth but do not eliminate the need for proper oral hygiene. Continue to brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and floss once a day.
3. Be mindful of sensitivity.
It is uncommon to experience sensitivity after sealant application, but if you notice any discomfort, it should resolve quickly. Contact us if sensitivity persists for more than a few days.
4. Monitor your child’s habits (if applicable).
If your child received sealants, encourage them to avoid biting down on pencils, pens or other non-food items that could damage the sealant.
5. Schedule regular check-ups.
Sealants are durable but can wear down over time. Regular dental checkups allow us to monitor their condition and reapply if necessary.
6. Watch for unusual sensations or issues.
If you notice any roughness, a change in your bite or sealants coming off, please call our office so we can address the issue promptly.
Sealants are a long-lasting and effective way to prevent cavities, but their success relies on consistent care and maintenance. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our office. We are here to help!
