Invisalign® Post-Op Instructions
Congratulations on beginning your Invisalign® clear aligner journey! To ensure the best results and maintain your oral health throughout treatment, please follow these post-op instructions carefully:
1. Wear Your Aligners as Directed
- Wear your aligners for 20–22 hours daily. Only remove them to eat, drink anything other than water and for brushing and flossing. Consistency is key to keeping your treatment on track.
2. Inserting and Removing Aligners
- Always use clean hands to handle your aligners.
- To insert, gently press the aligners over your teeth, ensuring they fit snugly.
- To remove, start from the back teeth and carefully lift the aligner forward to avoid damaging it.
3. Keep Aligners Clean
- Clean your aligners daily with a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water. Avoid using hot water, as it can warp the plastic.
- Do not use toothpaste or harsh cleaning agents that could scratch or damage the aligners.
- Consider Invisalign aligner cleaning crystals or a retainer cleaner for deep cleaning.
4. Handle Aligners with Care
- Always store your aligners in their provided case when not in use to avoid damage or loss.
- Keep them away from pets, as they may chew on them.
5. Maintain Oral Hygiene
- Brush your teeth after every meal before reinserting your aligners.
- Floss daily to prevent food particles and plaque from getting trapped between your teeth and the aligners.
6. Be Prepared for Initial Adjustments
- Some discomfort or tightness is normal when switching to a new set of aligners. This indicates they are working. Over-the-counter pain relief can be used if needed.
- Speak to your dentist or orthodontist if discomfort persists or if you notice any sharp edges on the aligners.
7. Monitor Your Progress
- Stick to your doctor’s schedule for switching aligners. Most patients change to a new set every 1–2 weeks, depending on the treatment plan.
- Attend all scheduled checkups to ensure your treatment is progressing as expected.
8. Dietary Considerations
- Always remove your aligners when eating or drinking anything other than water to avoid staining or damage.
- Avoid gum and sticky foods that might stick to your teeth or aligners.
